Linda - Lead

Linda-Lead

My first musical activity was learning the piano as a child, before moving into the world of Brass Banding, playing Flugel Horn.

It was while playing in a band concert in 1978 that I heard my first ‘Barbershop’ chord, sung by guests, the Preston Red Rose Chorus. It turned out to be a life changing evening for the whole Corcoran family. My Dad joined the Red Rose Chorus and I was soon part of a group, including my Mum & Sister, which formed ‘The Red Rosettes’. The brass band was doomed from then on !

I sang tenor in my first quartet ‘Quartz’ competing at the 1980 Convention coming 5th. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing, but I got to buy new stage shoes so was very happy !

In 1982 I joined Liverpool Ladies. During this time the Chorus won the Gold three times and I won a quartet Silver at the 1985 Convention, singing Bari with ‘City Limits’. (Very sparkly shoes !)

I returned to ‘The Red Rosettes’, in 1990 as Chorus Director, a position I happily held for almost 10 years. (That was loads of new shoes !)

When ‘Checkmate’ formed and needed a Tenor, I was happy to oblige. We won the Gold in Harrogate in 1994, and two years later, the International in Cardiff. (we even had matching handbags too !)

In 1999, I moved 200 miles south to Gloucestershire, and became the very proud Director of The Great Western Chorus of Bristol. (Current Bronze BABS Chorus)

In my ’spare time’ I work in sales and live with Martin who luckily, is also heavily involved in this same crazy ‘hobby’ being the Baritone Section Leader of the GWC and in the BABS quartet ‘Rough Cut’.

The whole idea of forming ‘HAVOC’ was just to ‘have a sing’ ……and buy more new shoes of course !

However…It’s somehow become rather more than that… winning the Gold is a dream that was never even on the agenda !

Buying new shoes was, though !
